An obedient person has a habit of voluntary, prompt, cooperative performance of a command or an unspoken desire of God and of those people placed in authority over him (parents, teachers, pastor, etc.). Obedience is the foundation for strong character later in life. Mt. 7:24,25 Obedience is the proof of your love for the Lord, for your parents, and for your teachers. Jn. 14:23 Rom. 6:16

The Bible tells you to “obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves. A submissive young person has given up his own desires and in attitude does not struggle for power over the person in authority. He obeys willingly and immediately in whatever he is asked to do – without complaining or arguing. Phil. 2:14 Obedience is a character trait that should not change according to your feelings or according to how those in authority treat you. 1 Peter 2:18,19

Disobedience to human authority is disobedience to God. Rom. 13:1,2 You will suffer consequences for continued disobedience to God. 1 Sam. 12:14,15 Prov. 30:17 Prov. 29:1 Ep. 6:1-3 Obedience to God will make you a “peculiar treasure” unto Him. Ex. 19:5

  1. Through the words that I say I show my eagerness to obey willingly in whatever is asked of me.
  2. When I answer someone who has asked me to do something my tone of voice shows that I am willing to submit myself to his or her desire.
  3. When with friends, I speak only in respect of those who are in authority above me.
  4. When being corrected for disobedience I look with a submissive attitude at the person who is correcting me. Prov. 27:19
  5. I do not argue to get out of having to do the tilings that I am asked to do.
  6. I am willing to go to my parents or to a teacher to find out about things in which I need to be more obedient.
  7. I obey promptly (without having to be reminded) and with a cheerful attitude.
  8. I submissively obey my parents when they tell me what kind of attitude I should have at home and at school.
  9. I am obedient to character training given to me; such as, “Be a hard worker, « Be dependable, “Be honest,” “Be more enthusiastic in your work,” etc.
  10. The way that I obey in the proper way now shows how I will obey in those things that the Lord will have me to do as an adult.

In what ways do you need to be more obedient? How do you need to change so that you could obey as did Noah in Genesis 6:22? Set a specific goal for yourself that you can practice every day. Confess known sin in the area of disobedience to the Lord and depend upon His strength to help you achieve your goal.

“This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do  according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.”
